*New* Monthly Workout Challenge

Starting in February we will be posting monthly exercise challenges to our members.  The challenge will be timed exercises or combination of exercises.  We will issue the challenge for the whole month and post the top five times at the end of the month.

For Febraury we will start with a basic but tough exercise.  plank with 45 lb plate on back.   Make sure to have a coach timing you at the gym so the time is legit!  We will post the top 5 times at the end of February.  Good Luck!

Tonight in Lowell 3 of Nonantum Boxing Club’s boxers have scheduled bouts in the Quarterfinals of the tournament.  Raf Rivera, Vinny Diiorio, and Mike Campanella are all looking to advance to the Semi-finals next week.  Stay tuned for updated results.

Golden Gloves Update

Friday night kicked off the first night of the 2012 Lowell Golden Gloves.  Nonantum Boxing Club was well represented with 3 victories out of 4 in the Novice Preliminary Round.  In the first bout of the night NBC’s Ryan Madden dropped a decision to Frangel Maggiolo in the 141lb weight class.  Also in the 141 lb class, Nonantum’s Mike Campanella edged out a hard fought victory against Ed Lee.  In the 152 lb class veteran Vinny “Thunder” Diiorio outworked his opponent Paul Treano and moved on to the next round.  Rounding out NBC’s team was Rafael Rivera who kept coming forward in a workman-like effort to beat Elizamanual Urina in the 178lb class.

2012 Lowell Golden Gloves

On Friday January 13th The 66th Annual Golden Gloves Tournament will be held in Lowell, MA.  The tournament will run on Tuesdays and Fridays through February and the winners will advance to the New England Tournament also held in Lowell.  We will keep you posted with weekly updates on how the Tournament is progressing and how the Nonantum Boxing Club boxers are faring.

New Kettlebell Class added!

We have added a Kettlebell strength & Conditioning class which runs every Thursday from 7pm to 8pm.  The class focuses on teaching technique and various exercises as well as increasing leg, core and upper body strength and endurance.  Come check it out, for non class members the walk-in is $15.

NBC Boxing camp

The summer boxing camp is back this week and starts today at noon.  We will be kicking today off with fitness test and fundamentals.  We should have a good crop of campers this year we will be checking in during the week to check in on our progress.
